Solution for Gaming from DataCom |
High quality digital surveillance networks are extremely processor intensive. As quality settings and the level of motion are increased, the relative processor load also increases. Many systems therefore deploy only 4 or 8 cameras per system for an extremely large hardware footprint. Excess heat and processor utilization cause an increase in failure rates and ultimately loss of data. This can leave operators vulnerable to regulatory fines and suspensions. As the industry has struggled to make the transition from analog to digital the requirement for enterprise level systems has been elevated. DataCom's IBM BladeCenter solution provides high performance video quality in the industry's smallest foorprint. Redundant architecture within the BladeCenter servers, chassis and backplane, RAID 10 storage, and DataCom's Complete Failover Safety provide the highest levels of availability to eliminate compliance issues. |

Digital Video Surveillance Solution from DataCom Systems
DataCom Systems Inc., a leader in surveillance and monitoring solutions, today announced the DataCom Digital Video Surveillance Solution on IBM BladeCenter, specially suited for law enforcement, gaming and financial services customers. By partnering with Blade.org members IBM and Avnet, DataCom is delivering a computing platform to manage and store the data from video surveillance cameras to safeguard an organization's physical assets. Joining Blade.org will provide DataCom with a thriving ecosystem of partners as it develops future solutions as well.
The solution allows security personnel to remotely access, view and email recorded video footage-helping speed interaction with law enforcement. Because the solution compresses images on a 64-bit video capture board, it frees more than 80 percent of the BladeCenter resources for enterprise applications.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office and Detention Facility in Arkansas recently deployed the solution to help monitor its new 710-bed detention facility. The facility can now track and manage up to 224 video surveillance cameras, while storing video for a minimum of 30 days, improving its prior VCR system. BladeCenter's integrated iSCSI switch provides a single connection from the chassis to the storage array, speeding on-the-fly information retrieval.
"Security surveillance is critical in the field of law enforcement," said Steve Kizzar, director of information technology, Washington County. "With the construction of our new detention facility and sheriff's office, we needed a high-performance, scalable computing platform that would not only store video and maintain the recordings for a much longer period of time than traditional-looped video tape, but also adhere to our limited space, power and cooling constraints. By using this solution, we were able to consolidate our IT systems to improve network management and ease operational logistics."

Washington County BladeCenter System from DataCom
Security and surveillance is critical in the field of law enforcement. The new Washington County Sheriff's Department and 710 bed detention facility requires 200 cameras to maintain proper security. It is also critical that the video be stored and managed for long periods of time. Due to space, heat and power constraints the number of industry standard DVRs needed was just not feasible. The DataCom IBM BladeCenter solution provided all components including storage within 9U of rack space. With one redundant I-SCSI connection to storage and direct connectivity of video feeds to the blade server, integration is simple and efficient. One centralized county IT administrator can manage all security, BladeCenter and storage settings for the Sherrif's Department, county jail, road department, juvenile facility, court house and revenue department from his office desktop.
